About SPRY

Strengthening Performance in the Retirement Years (SPRY)

What is Spry?

It's about human performance. As your body ages it continues changing. How it changes depends on how you care for it. The SPRY program is based upon specificity; directed strengthening and shaping techniques uniquely designed for advanced and aging adults.

How does it work?

At all ages, maintaining health and fitness requires education and adherence. The SPRY program provides the tools for older adults to learn how to continuously improve their quality of life using scientifically applied methods of exercise physiology and nutrition. SPRY experts educate older adults and provide a social network for a variety of proven methods that improve health and generate more energy for enhanced states of well-being.

Why is SPRY different?

Most people over thirty are acutely aware of the effects of the aging process. Joint and bone deterioration, muscle atrophy, and loss of energy are common features in older adults. What most people are not aware of is the science of ?de-aging?. The SPRY program is not just a rehabilitation program for correcting existing health problems. It is a pre-habilitation program that turns back the biological clock, giving older adults the strength and vitality necessary for preventing disease and age related deterioration.

Why is SPRY important now?

The former surgeon general has estimated that close to 85% of our most dreaded diseases are preventable with simple lifestyle changes. Our nation is at a crossroads regarding healthcare as it tries desperately to manage the growing population of elderly adults. Where advancements in medicine and technology continue to raise the expected lifespan, it is the quality of life that becomes evermore challenged. Some studies show that many adults are afraid to grow older, believing that they are destined to experience the ravages of time. They are afraid to be sick, unhealthy, or mentally unfit. They are afraid to become a burden on their loved ones.

We all have a responsibility to move forward without fear, a social obligation to ourselves, our families and to others, to lessen the burden of healthcare costs and resources by doing our part to remain healthy throughout our lives. Most people want to live long healthy lives, but simply don?t know how.

Who Should Participate?

The SPRY program is directed to older adults who reside in an independent care environment or assisted living facility. It can also be applied to social groups in a variety of community settings. Though the program applies to all older adults it maximizes adherence through the benefit of coaches, mentors and the social networking of group participation.
